“The beard sparked conversations about the importance of checking your bowels. It also makes you realise that an uncomfortable conversation with a doctor about bowel activity won’t seem so daunting after wearing an uncomfortable beard for an entire month,” says Felicity.

Beards for bowel cancer.

If you visited our Brisbane Square office in December you probably spotted Felicity Bongi from Finance and Advice. Felicity wore a knitted beard everywhere she went - at work, on the bus, while grocery shopping, and even at the airport! All to raise awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer Australia.

This is a charity very close to Felicity’s heart as bowel cancer and other digestive diseases run in her family. This is why, despite the summer heat and funny looks, Felicity persisted with her cause.

“The beard sparked conversations about the importance of checking your bowels. It also makes you realise that an uncomfortable conversation with a doctor about bowel activity won’t seem so daunting after wearing an uncomfortable beard for an entire month,” says Felicity.

Through the generosity of Felicity’s colleagues, family and friends, she raised more than $4,000 for Bowel Cancer Australia. Brighter Futures also boosted her efforts by $500 through Dollar Matching.
